Insulin Resistance: The Silent Blocker to Your Health Goals

Have you ever felt like you're doing everything right — eating healthy, exercising, cutting sugar — and yet the scale won’t budge or your energy dips every afternoon… you’re not alone.

What if I told you that the real issue might not be your discipline or your diet, but something happening beneath the surface — something that 70% of people don’t even know they have?

Let’s talk about insulin resistance, a silent and sneaky condition that could be blocking your progress and keeping your body stuck in a loop of fatigue, weight gain, and frustration.

What Is Insulin Resistance, Really?

Insulin is a hormone your body produces to help move glucose (sugar) from your blood into your cells, where it’s used for energy. It’s like the key that opens the door for energy to enter.

But with insulin resistance, your cells stop responding to insulin the way they should. It's as if the lock on the door becomes rusty — insulin keeps trying, but the sugar can’t get in. So what does your body do? It produces even more insulin, trying harder to force the door open.

Over time, this overproduction of insulin leads to inflammation, weight gain (especially around the belly), cravings, mood swings, and eventually, more serious health conditions like prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes.

With Insulin Resistance you may feel:

  • Tired after meals

  • Constantly hungry, even after eating

  • Crave sugar or carbs

  • Gain weight, especially around the waist

  • Mood swings or trouble focusing

  • Struggling to lose weight despite clean eating

But My Blood Sugar Tests Are Normal…

I hear this all the time from clients:

“My A1C and glucose levels are fine, but I still can’t lose weight or feel good.”

Here’s why: Standard blood sugar tests don’t always catch insulin resistance in its early stages. Your fasting glucose or A1C might appear in the “normal” range, but your body could still be pumping out excess insulin behind the scenes to keep that sugar in check.

One of the most overlooked markers? Fasting insulin. Ideally, it should be under 5 µIU/mL. But most standard blood panels don’t test for insulin unless you specifically ask.

The Good News: You Can Turn This Around

Here’s what I want you to know: Insulin resistance is reversible. Yes, it takes time, strategy, and some mindset rewiring — but you are absolutely capable.

Small, consistent shifts can help:

  • Reduce refined carbs and added sugars

  • Add more protein and healthy fats to balance blood sugar

  • Prioritize sleep and stress reduction — because cortisol affects insulin too

  • Incorporate strength training and walking after meals

  • Get curious with your data: Ask your doctor for a fasting insulin test

Rewire Your Mindset

Healing insulin resistance is not just about what you eat — it’s also about how you think, feel, and support your nervous system.

Start asking deeper questions. Be open to what your body is telling you. And most importantly — stay kind and patient with yourself on the journey.

Your body wants to heal. Let’s help it do just that.

If you’re ready to dive deeper into insulin resistance and rewire the mindset keeping you stuck, let’s connect. You don’t have to figure this out alone.
